Abstract:
An elevator capable of not only sufficiently securing a work space necessary for the maintenance and inspection of a hoist inside a machine room but also increasing the contact angle of a main rope on a traction sheave without increasing the vertical dimension of the machine room. A balance weight (30) is lifted at the rear of a car (20). The traction sheave (41) and a drive device (42) are disposed in the machine room (11) at a position above the rear wall (20b) of the car (20) so that their rotating axis can be extended in the lateral direction. Also, one of a pair of front and rear car side sheaves is disposed under the traction sheave (41).
