Abstract:
Provided is an elliptically polarizing plate which has excellent machining properties and is free from the occurrence of defects such as waving at a cut end surface even if the elliptically polarizing plate is cut. An elliptically polarizing plate which comprises a polarizing layer, a λ/4 retardation layer, a vertically aligned liquid crystal cured layer and a reinforcement layer, and which is configured such that: the vertically aligned liquid crystal cured layer is formed of a polymer of a polymerizable liquid crystal composition that contains a polymerizable liquid crystal compound which is in a vertically aligned state with respect to the plane of the liquid crystal cured layer; the vertically aligned liquid crystal cured layer has a film thickness of 3 μm or less; and the interlayer distance between the vertically aligned liquid crystal cured layer and the reinforcement layer is 5 μm or less.
