Abstract:
[Problem] To provide an elongate material thickness measuring method and thickness measuring system for measuring a flow-direction component and a width-direction component of a paper thickness separately without the need for a conventional basis weight sensor employing radiation, wherein the thickness measuring method and thickness measuring system employ a non-scanning, non-filtering method, can be applied even to small papermaking machines, and have a high economic effect.
[Solution] In this elongate sheet material thickness measuring method the thickness of an elongate sheet material W that is being rewound onto a reel spool 16 while being pressed against a reel drum 12 is measured. The thickness measuring method includes measuring in a non-contact manner an amount of increase in the roll diameter of a rewind roll R formed by the elongate sheet material W, measuring the number of revolutions of the reel spool 16, and obtaining the thickness of the elongate sheet material by means of a calculation employing the measured amount of increase in the roll diameter and the number of revolutions.
