An emergency brake device for a lift comprises brake blocks (2) and guide rails (1). A car (4) is provided between the guide rails (1). A wire cable (3) is connected to an upper end of the car (4). Multiple brake blocks (2) are installed at left and right wall surfaces of the car (4). The brake blocks (2) are slidably connected to the guide rails (1). An upper end of the brake block (2) has a T-shaped slot (15) matching the guide rail (1). First slide grooves (7) are formed at left and right sides of the brake block (2) beside the T-shaped slot (15). A first piston (6) is provided in the first slide groove (7). The brake block (2) has a second slide groove (14) under the T-shaped slot (15). A second piston (10) is provided at the second slide groove (14). An oil flow channel (8) is formed under the first slide groove (7). The right end of the oil flow channel (8) is in communication with the second slide groove (14). An oil inlet (9) is formed under the second slide groove (14). The oil inlet (9) is in communication with the second slide groove (14). The emergency brake device for a lift has a simple structure, is highly practical and very safe, exhibits favorable brake performance. The emergency brake device of the present invention has a wide range of applications.
