Abstract:
Provided is an emulsifying agent for reactive emulsion polymerization, that is capable of improving stability during emulsion polymerization, avoiding processing issues caused by foam reduction during polymer dispersion, and improving characteristics, such as water resistance, of a polymer film obtained from polymer dispersion. An emulsifying agent for emulsion polymerization containing a compound indicated in general formula (I) is used. In general formula (I): R0 indicates a C1-4 alkyl group; R1 indicates one or two types of groups selected from groups indicated; 2 indicates hydrogen or a methyl group; D indicates a polymerizable unsaturated group indicated by chemical formula D-1 or D-2; R3 indicates a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; m1 indicates 1 or 2; m2 indicates 1-4; m3 indicates 0 or 1; A indicates a C2-4 alkylene group or substituted alkylene group; n indicates an average number of added mols of alkylene oxide in the range of 0-1,000; X indicates a hydrogen atom or an anionic hydrophillic group selected from - (CH2)a-SO3M, -(CH2)b-COOM, -PO3M2, -P(Z)O2M, or -CO-CH2-CH(SO3M)-COOM, wherein a and b each indicate 0-4, Z indicates the residue after X is removed from general formula (I), and M indicates a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal atom, an alkali earth metal atom, ammonium residue, or an alkanolamine residue.
