In some embodiments, a video decoder obtains a bitstream for a current picture and further obtains a value of a first indication information in a sequence parameter set (SPS) of the current picture based on the bitstream. The value of the first indication information indicates whether to decode a value of a second indication information for a slice of the current picture. The decoder obtains the value of the second indication information when the value of the first indication information indicates to decode the value of the second indication information for a slice of the current picture. When the value of the second indication information is equal to a first value, a prediction refinement with optical flow (PROF) process is not to be performed for the slice.
