Abstract:
The present invention improves data retention characteristics of memory cells of a memory system wherein data are encoded then written into the memory cells. A first candidate parity generation part generates, as a first candidate parity, a parity used for detecting an error of an information portion wherein a predetermined value is set in a predetermined variable region. A second candidate parity generation part generates, as a second candidate parity, a parity used for detecting an error of the information portion wherein a different value from the predetermined value is set in the predetermined variable region. A selection part selects, as a selected parity, a parity that satisfies a predetermined condition from between the first and second candidate parities. An output part outputs a codeword comprising the information portion corresponding to the selected parity and the selected parity.
