Abstract:
The present technology relates to an encoding device, encoding method, decoding device, and decoding method that are able to increase encoding efficiency in the case of performing intra prediction. A candidate prediction image generation unit (41) generates a prediction image by performing a plurality of intra prediction modes of intra prediction processing on a PU in an image that is to be encoded. A prediction mode determination unit (43) determines the optimal intra prediction mode of the PU that is to be subjected to intra prediction processing. A Most Probable Mode generation unit (51) generates a Most Probable Mode using a neighboring optimal intra prediction mode. A difference mode generation unit (52) generates optimal difference intra prediction mode information indicating the difference of the Most Probable Mode and the number of the optimal intra prediction mode of the PU that is to be subjected to intra prediction processing. An intra skip determination unit (45) transmits the optimal difference intra prediction mode information. The present technology, for example, can be applied to an encoding device.
