Disclosed in the embodiments of the present application is an encoding method, which is used for improving the repair efficiency and repair capability of a repair packet. The method in the embodiments of the present application comprises: a sending end device acquiring a code matrix, wherein the code matrix comprises a target row; the sending end device acquiring an available space of the target row; the sending end device receiving an original data packet; if the size of the original data packet is smaller the available space, the sending end device putting the original data packet in the available space of the target row, and if the size of the original data packet is greater than the available space, then the sending end device putting the original data packet in an available space of a row other than the target row in the code matrix; the sending end device determining a repair packet according to the original data packet and coordinate information of the original data packet, wherein the repair packet is used for repairing the original data packet; and the sending end device sending the repair packet to a receiving end device.
