Abstract:
Provided are: an endoscope system that, by automatically determining an observation state, determines whether to conduct aperture control or the like that prioritizes depth of field or resolution; a control method; an imaging device; and the like. The endoscope system contains: an imaging unit (200) that images a subject via an optical system and an imaging element (206); an observation state determination unit (320) that determines the observation state of the subject acquired by the imaging unit (200); and an aperture control unit that, on the basis of the observation state determined by the observation state determination unit (320), controls the state of an aperture contained in the optical system. When the observation state is determined to be a first observation state, the aperture control unit controls the aperture state in a manner so that the resolution determined by the diffraction limit resulting from the aperture of the optical system becomes at least equivalent to a resolution determined by the imaging element (206), and when the observation state is determined to be a second observation state, the aperture control unit narrows the aperture compared with the aperture state in the first observation state.
