Abstract:
Provided are: an endoscope system with which it is possible to accurately calculate oxygen saturation by correcting an error attributable to a non-linear response characteristic of an image sensor; and a method for operating same. An endoscope system (10) is equipped with a processor that: acquires a plurality of spectroscopic images for use in calculation of an oxygen saturation of an observation object and a correction spectroscopic image for use in calculation of a correction value for correcting the oxygen saturation; prepares a linearization correction table which linearizes the relation between the quantity of incident light on an image sensor 48 and a pixel value of the correction spectroscopic image; and then calculates a correction value using the correction spectroscopic image having been subjected to linearization correction using the linearization correction table.
