This endoscope system has: a light source unit that emits excitation light for exciting a fluorescence agent administered to a patient and illumination light for illuminating the inside of the patient; an image capture unit for capturing fluorescence generated in response to irradiation with the excitation light and reflection light generated in response to irradiation with illumination light; a reflection light image generation unit that generates a reflection light image which is an image corresponding to the reflection light; a fluorescence image generation unit that generates a fluorescence image which is an image corresponding to the fluorescence; an image recording unit that records the reflection light image and the fluorescence image; and a video recording management unit that performs control for causing the image recording unit to record the reflection light image and the fluorescence image in a fluorescence generation period, and performs control for causing the image recording unit to record the reflection light image, in the fluorescence non-generation period, for a predetermined period of time before the start of the fluorescence generation period.
