Abstract:
This endoscope system images a living tissue that has been illuminated with first through third lights, and generates first through third color image data. Control is provided such that the amount of hemoglobin in the living tissue and the oxygen saturation of said hemoglobin are calculated using components of the first through third color image data, an oxygen saturation distribution image indicating the distribution of the oxygen saturation is generated, and the generated oxygen saturation distribution image is displayed on a display, overlapping with an image of the imaged living tissue. The oxygen saturation is calculated on the basis of the amount of hemoglobin and a second ratio that is obtained using components of the color image data. For a pixel for which the value of the second ratio is outside the allowed range for the second ratio, said allowed range being set in accordance with the amount of hemoglobin, the transmittance of said pixel is adjusted.
