Abstract:

Provided is an energy-absorbing member and a method for producing same, the energy absorbing member having a structure in which a plurality of fiber reinforced resin layers are layered in the thickness direction of the member, the energy-absorbing member including, as the plurality of fiber reinforced resin layers, a plurality of unidirectional elements comprising a resin and unidirectionally aligned reinforcing fibers and/or a plurality of cross elements comprising a resin and a fabric woven from reinforcing fibers; wherein the energy-absorbing member is characterized in that the exterior-loading-direction length of the plurality of unidirectional elements sequentially changes. The optimum energy absorption quantity can be easily adjusted and set in accordance with a target value without substantially changing the outward shape of the member.
