Description:
"ENERGY GENERATION USING SEGREGATED WASTE AND REPORTING USING BLOCK CHAIN SYSTEM THROUGH SOCIETY BIN"

Technical field of the Invention

The present invention generally relates to the waste management and energy generation system, and more particularly to the system for segregation of the solid wastes using imaging technology through the mobile phones and reporting credits through block chain system; and categorizing them into different sections followed by their treatment for energy generation within the society bin.

Background of the Invention

Waste segregation is a process of dividing waste into dry waste and wet waste. Dry waste includes materials such as paper, wood and related products, metals and glass and wet waste refers to organic waste products usually generated from foods, which mainly contains water content. Waste products can also be segregated on basis of degradability such as biodegradable or non-biodegradable waste products. Waste segregation can be carried out using sorting process where the waste is separated into different elements which is usually done manually at the household level. Waste segregation separates the waste into wet waste and dry waste, and the purpose is to recycle dry waste easily and to use wet waste as compost. The wastes which are segregated and collected usually end up in the landfills which pose several problems. Also as the land availability is highly decreased due to industrial expansion and deforestation, there is difficulty for the increased amount of waste to be accommodated in the landfills. This creates a need for waste segregation which should be feasible economically as well as support environmentally. There are huge waste sorting machines which are developed which is waste recycling equipment which automatically separates the solid wastes and the sorted waste and be recycled. The waste sorting machine separates the recyclable materials from municipal solid waste, which includes glass, ferrous metal, aluminum, plastics, paper etc. The sorted waste materials are divided into separate parts, shredded, compacted, baled for sale in market. But sorting of the waste products does not provide any solution for the growing waste every day which has a greater impact on the environmental health. Though waste segregation helps in reduction of the waste that gets landfilled, and occupies space, and also lowers the air and water pollution rates considerably. Segregating waste also makes it easier to apply different processes - composting, recycling and incineration can be applied to different kinds of waste. The waste which is collected from every house hold is separated and sorted into various categories including paper; glass which are clear (light bulbs and window panes belong with residual waste); plastics; textiles; wood, leather, rubber; scrap metal; compost; special/hazardous waste; residual waste; organic waste; leftover food; meat and bones from animal waste; peel and scrapings from fruit and vegetables; flowers, corks, coffee grindings, rotting fruit, tea bags, egg- and nutshells, paper towels etc.

The waste which is segregated can be used for various purposes; one main purpose is the energy production. Producing electricity is only one reason to burn the waste materials. Burning waste also reduces the amount of material that would probably be buried in landfills. Burning the solid waste reduces the volume of waste by about 87% which are filled in the landfills. Every year, millions of tons of solid waste are generated in households around the world and which is disposed of in council and municipal landfill sites, while at the same time, millions of units of energy from coal, oil and natural gas are burned daily to generate the electrical power we need to run our homes and workplaces. The energy content available from combustion of solid waste represents a significant“alternative energy” supply to help reduce the use and our dependency on conventional fossil fuels.

Converting waste to energy has many advantages too by not only reducing the amount of landfill dumping, but by reducing the amount of greenhouse-gas emissions and pollution we pump into the atmosphere each and every year as well as reducing our dependence on non-renewable fossil fuels. However, many wastes to energy conversion technologies are designed to handle only one or a few types of waste and can be difficult to fully separate different types of waste materials.

There are several systems and methods which are developed, which narrates various ways of waste management and energy production.

A prior art patent US8560459B2 which discloses methods and facilities for a municipal solid waste management system. The invention includes a system and method for creating a municipal solid waste (MSW) system to address the multiple types of waste that are disposed by the public, and further, to provide a waste management solution that provides for the sustained economic development and growth of communities. The present invention also provides effective screening and separation of hazardous components in the waste stream, and further provides recovery and reuse solutions as alternatives to disposal of hazardous waste. The present invention further provides communities with a system and method to more effectively capture and use disposed MSW and other waste streams to provide renewable energy sources. Moreover, the present invention includes a method for establishing a municipal solid waste management system that makes sustainable development possible while preserving the economic interests of the parties involved.

Another prior art patent W02002070635A2 discloses conversion of municipal solid waste to high fuel value. The invention is a combustible pellet comprising municipal solid waste and methods of making therefor. The pellet has a water content of less than about 10 % by weight and a fuel value of at least about 10,000 BTU. The process for the forming of a combustible pellet from municipal solid wastes, comprises providing municipal solid waste essentially free of solid hazardous waste and essentially free of recyclable products; shredding and pulverizing the municipal solid waste to form a fluff with a water content of less than about 10 % by weight; and compacting the fluff to form a combustible pellet. A fluff with a water content of less than 10% by weight is obtained. The fluff is compacted to form a combustible pellet.

Another prior art patent US4624417A discloses a method of treating municipal solid waste offshore: alternative to incineration and landfill. A method of treating municipal solid waste by first segregating the recyclables, the non-recyclables, and the biodegradable waste. Recyclables are sold to recycling firms. Non-recyclables are sealed airtight in barges that serve as platforms for vermi- composting and food production offshore. The biodegradable waste is brought to an offshore facility where it is fed to earthworms, converting organic waste into castings and protein meal. Food production is conducted in tandem with vermi-composting to complete the recycling process. Earthworms are fed to freshwater fish. Earthworm protein serves as feed ingredient for livestock. Castings serve as substrate for organic crops in greenhouses. Waste from livestock serves as activator for composting organic municipal waste and input to biogas digesters. Freshwater fish serves as feed for saltwater fish in cages in-between the barges. Thus, the recycling cycle turns full circle with: zero waste, where the municipal waste is completely disposed of without polluting the environment. Another prior art patent US20120047080A1 discloses a waste management and recycling tracking system. An on-line waste management reporting and tracking system allows contractors to create waste management plans. Cities and other governing bodies can manage and enforce their recycling policies. Property owners can track the recycling on construction debris within their property. Recycling facilities can create diversion reports and upload tickets directly to a project. Users communicate and interact via the system. Waste management plans can be submitted directly to the governmental bodies. Users track recycling on construction projects through detailed recycling reports. The system calculates a plan's emissions and gives suggestions on how to reduce a plan's carbon footprint. All the above disclosed prior art patents provide various ways of waste management and energy production. The waste management system using block chain system increases the efficiency of waste segregation and energy production within the society bin, and also saves the waste details of the waste contributor in the system.

The present invention discloses a system and method for waste segregation and energy generation which aims at reducing the waste which is being dumped in the landfills. The present invention uses deep learning and LED application for waste segregation. The components of the present invention comprises of a cell phone through which the waste is categorized into various categories, a society bin, and a blockchain system.

According to the present invention, the waste imaging is carried out through a mobile phone with an inbuilt camera feature, which would be helping in approving right category of waste for the society bin. The present invention uses deep learning for categorization of waste, where the deep learning or the deep structured learning or the hierarchical learning is a type of machine learning which is based on learning data representations, as opposed to task-specific algorithms, which can be either supervised, or semi-supervised or unsupervised

FIG 1 illustrates the deep learning and LED application used in present invention. As illustrated in FIG 1, the waste imaging is carried out through the mobile phones, which is also used for categorization of the waste through deep learning. If the done categorization is incorrect, then the mobile phone coverts the error from text to speech. If the categorization done is correct, then the mobile phone with along with IOT sensors inside bin would indicate which waste to be thrown in which bucket and warn (in case of mistake) as one by one each item is expected to be added in the bin.

FIG 2 illustrates the use of blockchain system in the waste segregation process. According to FIG 2, the blockchain system is used along with the waste segregation system, which helps in recording the details related to the waste contributor. Using the block chain system, waste contributor’s entry would be made on real time on hyper ledger and would be updated with credit. The present invention uses Deep learning and LED application for waste segregation along with weight sensors and IoT Sensors to allocate the credits of waste contribution by individually correctly. The credit update is predicted using the blockchain operated through the mobile phone. The gained credits would be added into monthly details in hyper ledger.

FIG 3 illustrates the use of IOT application in the waste segregation process. As illustrated in FIG 3, the present invention uses IOT (Internet of Things) application for waste segregation. According to the present invention, the storage bin which is powered with the LED (Light Emitting Diode) and IOT (Internet of Things) sensors along with weight sensors, which is used to intimate the waste collector to empty the storage bin. When the storage bin is completely filled, the respective waste collector would be intimated for waste collection. Similarly when the storage bin is not completely full, then it waits until the bin is full before intimating the waste collector. The system helps to reduce 60% of trips of waste collector and would not let the waste get mixed at the end of waste collector. The waste is categorized into organic waste and inorganic waste which is then processed to generate energy out of it.

According to the present invention, the energy is converted which mainly happens when the waste is stored in the society bin before it is being dumped into the landfills. The time of storage of the waste in the society bins, from the collection of the waste from household or any waste contributor till it is disposed off, is generally around eight to nine hours, which can be utilized for energy generation from the waste in the society bin. Also the segregated wastes which are collected by the waste collectors are processed to recycle the waste products.

FIG 4 illustrates the energy conversion and conservation system, which uses the food waste in the society bin for energy conversion. With reference to FIG 4, society bin is disclosed which also consists of a revolution mechanism containing a cycle and chain set-up 11, which can be rotated mechanically or electrically, for mixing the food waste and converting it from solid state to either semi-solid or liquid state. The system also comprises of components including cycle with paddle 7, electrochemical reaction metals 8, extractable racks to compress food waste 2, extractable rack bottom 3, compression and revolving lever 9, closing lid of the society bin 1, and removable batteries 5.

According to the present invention, the society bin had a closing lid 1 which has an extractable rack of tray 2 to compress the food waste. The food waste which is present in the society bin reacts with the enzymes present in the enzyme racks 10, and then moves to the next chamber by going through another extractable rack 3 after which it comes in contact with compression and revolving lever 9. The compression and revolving lever 9 is in contact with the cycle and chain set-up 11 which continuously revolves and rotates the food waste in circular motion to form a mixture which is wither semi-solid or a liquid state. The enzyme treated food waste is revolved and compressed together and the mixture moves to a chamber containing electrochemical reaction metals 8. The cycle has a paddle 7 which can be manually paddled by a user to create a rotating motion. The mixture then moves into an opening 6 which leads to the chamber containing electrochemical reaction metals 8. The mixture reacts with the metals for energy generation and the generated energy is stored in the removable batteries 5. Once all the energy is generated from the food waste mixture, the mixture is further compressed to form a cake like solid structure, which can be removed from the society bin with the help of extractable rack of tray, and can be disposed off in any landfills. The cake which is disposed, as contains small traces of enzyme in it, and is completely biodegradable in nature, and does not contribute to environmental pollution.

Various methods are used for recycling other than food wastes, which can be used to generate clean energy. Advanced non-incineration conversion technologies and methods like pyrolysis and gasification provides different ways of generating clean energy from waste materials, which helps in avoiding pollution caused due to burning of the waste, incineration and combustion.

With increasing global consumerism and population growth leading to an increase in the levels of waste materials being produce, the waste management technologies are being developed to find alternatives to landfills by converting as much of the mixed general waste back to be recycled or reused as possible in an attempt to turn waste into energy and waste into fuels. Rather than sending residual wastes direct to landfill, advanced conversion technologies that are coupled with advanced pollution control systems can be employed to convert these calorific materials into clean energy. Advanced technologies can be used to produce biogas, syngas, liquid biofuels, or pure hydrogen. Energy can be derived from food waste in a number of ways. Waste to energy processes include, wastes that has been enzymatically and electrochemically treated and made into a solid fuel for incineration to produce heat and steam. Food waste can be converted into biogas from both organic and inorganic wastes, or biological technologies, in which bacterial fermentation is used to digest organic wastes to yield fuel, converting the waste to fuel. With the developed advanced technologies, it is easy to separate the bio-waste which can be recycled, from the waste that can be used as a valuable and future energy source turning waste and other renewable waste fuels into clean energy. The food waste can be converted into energy, which is done using the incineration of waste products either by burning the rubbish in the back yard or by large industrial incinerators to produce heat. The category of waste to energy broadly describes any of a number of processes or technologies in which a useful by-product (energy) is recovered from an otherwise unusable source.

The present invention is beneficial for the apartments and societies where food waste can be collected separately, and it can be used for generating electrical energy, that can be further used to meet the electrical requirements of the apartments and societies. Also the system can be highly beneficial to restaurants and food eateries, where large amount of food waste is collected, and can be used for generating energy.
