Title:
ENGINE COMPONENT
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2012/106791
Kind Code:
A8
Abstract:
The present invention aims at solving the problem of providing coatings for engine components (engine block or fixed or removable sleeves) with at least one cylindrical cavity and made mainly of iron or aluminium, which are to be provided with a coating (3) with three different layers that are deposited on the metal substrate (1). A first layer (21) is made of at least 80% silicon deposited on the substrate (1) and having the function of providing an interface that ensures a good adherence between the metal substrate (1) and the following layers, which contain amorphous hydrogenated carbon. A second, transition layer (22) contains a percentage of silicon and amorphous hydrogenated carbon (a-C:H:Si). Finally, on the working surface, a third layer (23) is composed of pure amorphous hydrogenated carbon (a-C:H). This coating (3) is produced by plasma-enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD) using the hollow cathode effect (HCE).
