Abstract:
An engine control device comprises: a state-determining unit that determines the state of an engine; and a control unit that, when the state of the engine is determined by the state-determining unit to be an engine stop mode in which the engine is restarted after stopping, performs control so as to change the phases of an intake valve and an exhaust vale via a variable valve timing control mechanism, creating backflow in the engine, after fuel is cut the engine stop mode. The control unit is configured so as to control the opening and closing of a first intake-flow-passage-opening/closing valve that opens and closes an intake passage in an intake pipe, in accordance with the magnitude of the flow rate of the backflow, when the control unit has executed the control for creating backflow.
