Abstract:
In the present invention a PCM (100), in accordance with the operating state of an engine (1), switches between a CI mode in which the engine (1) is operated by compression ignition combustion and a SI mode in which the engine (1) is operated by spark ignition combustion. Furthermore, when the engine (1) is operating in the CI mode and it is determined that an estimated value (Tc) for the catalyst temperature is equal to or less than a warmup starting temperature (Ts), the PCM (100) executes a first warmup control wherein four cylinders (18) are divided into CI cylinders performing compression ignition combustion and SI cylinders performing spark ignition combustion, such that the four cylinders (18) alternately perform compression ignition combustion and spark ignition combustion in accordance with the combustion order of the cylinders.
