Abstract:
The present invention executes a vehicle orientation control without affecting the combustion performance of spark ignition-controlled compression ignition combustion. An ECU 60 performs a vehicle orientation control to reduce torque generated by an engine when the increase level of a steering angle is above a reference increase level, and executes, in a predetermined operation region, spark ignition-controlled compression ignition combustion by driving an ignition plug 16 so as to cause self-ignition of an air-fuel mixture at a predetermined timing. When an additional deceleration through the vehicle orientation control is requested (YES at #12), and the spark ignition-controlled compression ignition combustion is being executed (YES at #13), the ECU 60 prohibits ignition retarding of the ignition plug 16 and executes reduction of torque for the vehicle orientation control through an amount reducing control of reducing the amount of fuel to be supplied to a cylinder 2 (#14). On the other hand, when the spark ignition-controlled compression ignition combustion is not being executed (NO at #13), the ECU 60 executes the ignition retarding in order to reduce torque for the vehicle orientation control (#15).
