Abstract:
Provided is an engine starting device capable of rapidly responding to an engine restart request. In this engine starting device a pinion (16) engages a ring gear (16) when the rotational frequency of the pinion (16) is less than the rotational frequency of the ring gear (12). The pinion (16) is configured so as to be capable of moving on a clutch inner member (7a) while bending an elastic body (9) installed between the clutch inner member (7a) and the pinion (16). In addition, the configuration is such that when the amount of axial movement of the pinion (8) moving on the clutch inner member (7a) while bending the elastic body (9) is L1, the axial length of a chamfer (13) provided on the pinion side of the ring gear (12) in the axial direction is L2, and the axial length of a chamfer (14) provided on the ring gear side in of the pinion in the axial direction is L3, then L1>L2 and/or L1>L3.
