Abstract:
[Problem] To provide an automobile engine variable phase device having a self-locking mechanism that reliably maintains an operation for changing the opening and closing timing of an engine valve. [Solution] This engine variable phase device comprises: a drive rotating body that has a sprocket and a cylindrical section, and is driven by a crankshaft; a control rotating body that receives torque from a rotary operating force imparting means; a relative phase angle changing mechanism that changes the relative phase angle of a cam shaft relative to the drive rotating body in response to the rotation of the control rotating body; and a self-locking mechanism that utilizes cam torque to prevent the relative phase angle of the cam shaft from shifting relative to the drive rotating body. A relative displacement mechanism, which holds the sprocket in a relatively displaceable manner in a vertical direction with respect to the central axis of rotation, is disposed on the cylindrical section.
