Abstract:
Provided are an engine and an engine work machine that can effectively suppress vibration in the vicinity of a fuel filler opening in which a fuel filler cap is installed and the accumulation of stress in a tank mounting portion due to the vibration, and that can prevent degradation of a fuel tank. An engine, which is provided with a fuel tank (24) in a lower portion of a crank case, includes a recoil cover (40) which is a first cover that covers a recoil starter from one end, the recoil starter being an engine starting device disposed behind a crankshaft (19). The recoil cover (40) is provided with a stand portion (44) that extends to a lower surface of the fuel tank (24) and a first tank holding portion (tank holding portion (43)) that is integrally formed so as to be separate from the stand portion (44).
