Abstract:
An engine having: a piston (10) in which a cavity (11) is formed; a cylinder head (40) configured so as to form a pent roof type combustion chamber (30); a fuel injection valve (3) that injects fuel in the interval from the second half of the compression stroke to the first half of the expansion stroke; and spark plugs (4) arranged at positions corresponding to the area above the cavity of the piston. Multiple injection openings (27) are arranged in the circumferential direction surrounding the longitudinal axis of the fuel injection valve, and inject fuel in a direction with a prescribed injection angle of inclination from the longitudinal axis. The injection openings are formed such that the injection angle of the injection openings increases as the height of the ceiling (30a) of the combustion chamber at the position corresponding to the outer edge (11d) of the cavity in the injection direction of the injection openings increases.
