This engine 1 is provided with: an exhaust manifold 6; an intake manifold 5; and an EGR device that supplies an EGR gas from the exhaust manifold 6 to the intake manifold 5, wherein the upper end of a downwardly extending EGR cooler 20 is attached to a downwardly protruding attachment section 62 provided on the exhaust manifold 6.
