Abstract:
An engine 100 is provided with: a cylinder in which a cylinder liner is formed; a piston that is provided in the cylinder liner; a piston ring that is provided to the piston; a step that is formed in the inner peripheral surface of the cylinder liner; a contact detection unit 184 that detects contact with the piston ring; and a compression ratio control unit 182 that controls the top dead center position of the piston so as to position the piston ring at the top dead center position closer to a combustion chamber side than to the step.
