Abstract:
While moving a head having a plurality of equidistantly arranged engraving pins stepwise in a lateral direction, and when forming a code matrix (CM) comprising a plurality of dots on an engraved surface, a control unit sequentially positions the head such that the distance the head travels in the lateral direction does not become significantly larger, and such that adjacent dots are formed by different engraving pins. Through the above, errors arising when the head is moved in a wide step are dispersed, and as a result, the dots constituting a pattern can be formed accurately in a matrix shape.
