Description:
DETAILED DESCRIPTION

TITLE: ERGONOMIC SAXOPHONE STOOL CHAIR

The present invention relates to an ergonomic solution for a saxophone player to be able to play in a pain free manner and alleviate long term effects of extended play on the user's health. The stool has been developed in such a way as to make it compatible with any of the 3 most commonly used types of saxophone (Baritone, Alto and Tenor). It has also been designed in such a way as to be easily portable.

The adjustable instrument cup (7) which is located underneath the user's seat (4) can be positioned so that it is either between the musician's legs or to the right hand side.

To this end, the stool consists of a central column (6) and a height adjustable rotatable seat which incorporates an adjustable backrest (1). The backrest is attached to the backrest shaft (3) by means of the backrest bracket (2). The central column has 3 collapsible legs (11) with braces (12), the legs are attached by means of an upper bracket (9) and lower bracket (10). The end of each leg is also fitted with non-slip rubber feet (13).

The unique design feature of this stool is that it has an adjustable support arm (8) fitted on the central column under the seat which allows the musician to rest the saxophone on the instrument cup to fully support its weight whilst playing. The instrument cup is rotatable and also has a groove cut into it so that the bow guard can fit into securely and so the user can rotate the instrument as well as the arm.

The adjustment for the height and rotation of the seat is achieved by using a threaded shaft (5) under the seat, fitted into an internally threaded socked in the central column. The correct positioning of the rubber cup which is critical for the user's comfort is achieved by first using a cam lock (8.1) fitted in the support arm to achieve the correct vertical height. On the end of the support arm is fitted a rubber cup which can also be adjusted on the horizontal plane by means of a locking device (14). The cup itself can again be adjusted by cam lock (7.1) to achieve the correct playing positioning relative to the musician's position. As the saxophone seat is adjustable in height, this allows a variety of age groups to play either of the above 3 saxophones with no stress applied to the neck or back.
