Abstract:
An escalator (11), in which stepboards (12) are connected to a chain (20) encompassing an upper sprocket wheel (18) provided on an upper floor (15) and a lower sprocket wheel (19) provided on a lower floor (16) and allowed to travel along a circulating path. While being maintained horizontal in a conveying area (S5) users are conveyed. Riding surfaces (22) of the stepboards are circulatingly driven while facing upward at all times, so that the escalator (11) can be made thin.
