Abstract:
Provided is an ESD protection device that exhibits excellent discharge characteristics under low applied voltages. Said ESD protection device is provided with the following: first and second discharge electrodes that are arranged so as to face each other; an auxiliary discharge electrode formed so as to extend between the first and second discharge electrodes; and an insulating substrate that holds the first and second discharge electrodes and the auxiliary discharge electrode. Said ESD protection device is characterized in that the auxiliary discharge electrode contains a plurality of metal particles (22) consisting primarily of a first metal and microasperities are formed on the surfaces of said metal particles (22); more specifically, the metal particles (22) have fractal dimensions (D) greater than or equal to 1.03. Since electric charge becomes concentrated in the microasperities, the auxiliary discharge electrode can produce discharges at comparatively low applied voltages.
