Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide: an ESD protection device that comprises a pair of discharge electrode layers opposing one another with a small space therebetween, and that has a low discharge starting voltage; and a method for producing the ESD protection device. This ESD protection device (100) comprises: a ceramic element (10); a first discharge electrode layer (3) and a second discharge electrode layer (5) that are arranged inside the ceramic element (10) in a manner so as to oppose one another in layers with a space (G) therebetween; a cavity (7) formed inside the ceramic element (10); and a plurality of external electrodes (12, 12) that are formed on the surface of the ceramic element (10) and that are electrically connected to the first discharge electrode layer (3) or the second discharge electrode layer (5). An end surface (3a, 5a) of each of the first discharge electrode layer (3) and the second discharge electrode layer (5) is exposed to an edge (7a) of the cavity (7).
