Provided is an ESD protection device which rarely undergoes the deterioration of ESD properties thereof. The ESD protection device (1) is equipped with a ceramic insulating material (10), first and second discharge electrodes (21, 22), and a discharge-assisting section (51). The first and second discharge electrodes (21, 22) are arranged in the ceramic insulating material (10). The discharge-assisting section (51) is arranged between the tip part of the first discharge electrode (21) and the tip part of the second discharge electrode (22). The discharge-assisting section (51) is an electrode capable of decreasing a discharge inception voltage between the first discharge electrode (21) and the second discharge electrode (22). The discharge-assisting section (51) comprises a sintered body containing electrically conductive particles and also containing semiconductor particles and/or insulating particles. Each of the first and second discharge electrodes (21, 22) contains a semiconductor material that constitutes the semiconductor particles and/or an insulating material that constitutes the insulating particles.
