Abstract:
Provided is an ESD protection element with which it is possible to lower the discharge initiating voltage and improve resistance to the deterioration of insulating properties. This ESD protection device contains: an insulating ceramic element body that has a hollow space; an auxiliary electrode that has a first main surface and a second main surface, and is embedded in the insulating ceramic element body such that the end between the first main surface and the second main surface is exposed to the hollow space; and a first discharge electrode and a second discharge electrode that are embedded in the insulating ceramic element body such that the main surfaces are opposed, with the auxiliary electrode interposed therebetween. The auxiliary electrode contains at least one first auxiliary electrode layer, and at least one second auxiliary electrode layer. The first auxiliary electrode layer contains a higher proportion of conductive material than the second auxiliary electrode layer, and is bonded to the first discharge electrode and/or the second discharge electrode.
