An estimating method for a rank of a channel under multi-stream beam forming transmission includes that: an user equipment (UE) estimates a channel quality indicator (CQI) according to a common pilot; a base station receives the CQI fed by the UE; the base station estimates an uplink channel information according to an uplink detecting pilot signal, an uplink data demodulation reference signal or a demodulation reference signal of uplink control channel transmitted by the UE; the base station obtains the rank of the channel according to the CQI fed by the UE and the estimative uplink channel information. The invention can estimate the value of the rank effectively, thereby the self-adapting transmission of the rank can be supported and the flexibility of the system is improved.
