Abstract:
According to the present invention, a means for preventing the occurrence of corrosion on the inner tube side of a heat exchanger in an ethylene oxide production process to enable the continuous production of ethylene oxide for a long period can be provided. The present invention relates to an ethylene oxide production method comprising: supplying a raw material gas containing ethylene, molecular oxygen and a chlorine compound to an ethylene oxidation reactor; performing the catalytic vapor-phase oxidation of ethylene with molecular oxygen in the raw material gas in the presence of a silver catalyst in the ethylene oxidation reactor to generate a gas containing ethylene oxide, water and the chlorine compound; and cooling the gas of interest, which contains water and the chlorine compound, with a heat exchanger. In the method, the gas of interest, which contains water to be cooled and the chlorine compound, is cooled in the heat exchanger at a gas flow rate of 7 m/s or more as measured on the heat exchanger inner tube side.
