Abstract:
Controlled light (7) having a specified wavelength and controlling light (6) having a specified wavelength are shone from a free space onto a polariton/photon interacting unit (5) comprising a waveguide having a cyclic structure, an optical switch to which the excitation of excion polariton, one of interactions between a radiation field and a substance system, is applied, which is excellent in quenching ratio and can operate at speeds of tera Hz order, and which is a grating (3) formed on the surface of a transparent substrate (2), and a semiconductor layer (4) covering the grating (3), thereby controlling the transmittance of the controlled light (7).
