Abstract:
An exhaust emission control device of an internal combustion engine, wherein an oxidation catalyst is installed on the exhaust emission upstream side of an exhaust emission catalyst. The catalyst capacity of the oxidation catalyst is set so that the degree of the activation of the catalyst is maximum (specified maximum activation range) and a value obtained by dividing the flow velocity of the exhaust emission by the catalyst capacity is maximum or nearly maximum when the flow velocity of the exhaust emission is equal to the flow velocity of the exhaust emission obtained when the internal combustion engine is operated in an idle state in the relation of the value obtained by dividing the flow velocity of the exhaust emission by the catalyst capacity (flow velocity of exhaust emission/catalyst capacity) with the degree of the activation of the catalyst.
