Abstract:
An exhaust emission control system having an internal combustion engine, a filter, and an exhaust pipe, a method of manufacturing a filter suitable for the system, and a method of calculating the pressure loss of the filter, the system comprising a combustion means for intermittently burning particulates arrested by the filter having porous partition walls extending from one end face to the other end face thereof and a large number of flow holes partitioned by the partition walls, wherein specified flow holes are sealed at either of the end faces, and where the thickness of the partition walls is (X) μm and the number of the flow holes per unit area in the cross section of the flow holes vertical to the longitudinal direction of the flow holes, (X) and (Y) comes within an area surrounded by straight lines connecting points A1, B1, C1, and D1 in this order, whereby an excellent reliability can be provided to the exhaust emission control system and the method of manufacturing the filter and the pressure loss by the filter can be accurately measured by suppressing a temperature gradient produced in the filter at the time of regeneration while suppressing the rise of the pressure loss by the filter.
