Abstract:

This exhaust gas purification catalyst (10) is an exhaust gas purification catalyst including a first catalyst layer (12), wherein: the first catalyst layer (12) includes a first section (14) and a second section (15) along the direction of flow of an exhaust gas; the first section (14) is located upstream from the second section (15) in the direction of flow of the exhaust gas; a catalyst layer (16) includes a catalyst active constituent that contains a specific element; the concentration of the specific element in the catalyst layer (12), expressed as a ratio of mass per unit volume, is greater in the first section (14) than in the second section (15); and when the first section (14) is equally divided in two in the thickness direction of the catalyst layer (12), and if the mass of the specific element present on the surface side of the catalyst layer (12) is a1 and the mass of the specific element present on the opposite side of the catalyst layer from the catalyst layer is a2, the ratio of a1 and a2, or a1/a2, is at least 1.1.
