Abstract:
In order to effectively prevent combustion in the engine from becoming unstable when initiating and terminating catalyst regeneration, this exhaust gas purification system is provided with a NOx reduction catalyst 32 disposed in the exhaust gas passage of the internal combustion engine, an intake airflow sensor 40, and a control unit 50 which performs regeneration treatment for switching the exhaust air-fuel ratio from a lean state to a rich state by using both air system control for reducing the air intake amount and injection system control for increasing the fuel injection amount. During the regeneration treatment initiation period of switching from the lean the state to the rich state, and/or during the regeneration treatment termination period of switching from the rich state to the lean state, the control unit 50 changes the fuel injection timing and/or the fuel injection amount of the internal combustion engine 10 in accordance with a detected value of the intake airflow sensor 40.
