Abstract:
Provided is an exhaust gas purifying catalyst having improved oxidation activity when exposed to high temperatures for a long period of time. The exhaust gas purifying catalyst disclosed herein comprises: a base material 30 including an alumina particle 32 and zirconia 34 covering at least a portion of the surface of the alumina particle 32; and a catalytic precious metal 40 supported on the base material 30 and containing at least Pt. The average particle diameter of the zirconia 34, as determined by a focused ion beam scanning electron microscope, is 50 nm or less. The molar ratio (ZrO2/Pt) of the zirconia 34 to the Pt is 8 or greater.
