Abstract:
In order to increase the efficiency of NH3 generation, the present invention is equipped with: an NH3 generation catalyst that generates NH3 from NOx and H2 when the air-fuel ratio is rich; an in-cylinder injection valve that injects fuel into an air cylinder; and a control device that sets the period for fuel injection from the in-cylinder injection valve to the second half of the compression stroke when the air-fuel ratio is to be enriched and the temperature of the NH3 generation catalyst is within a first prescribed range, and sets the period for fuel injection from the in-cylinder injection valve to the first half of the intake stroke when the air-fuel ratio is to be enriched and the temperature of the NH3 generation catalyst is within a second prescribed range which is higher than the first prescribed range.
