Provided are a unit-type exhaust silencer preferably used for engine-driven equipment, and an engine-driven water heater using the unit-type silencer. An exhaust silencer (1) is comprised of a plurality of exhaust silencer units (22). Each silencer unit has an exhaust gas introduction surface (21) and an exhaust gas discharge surface (22), which are opposed to each other. The exhaust gas discharge surface (22) is open, and an exhaust gas tube (23) and an exhaust gas drain tube (24) are provided in a bottom surface (21a) of the exhaust gas introduction surface (21). The exhaust silencer units (2) are coupled to one another by coupling the exhaust gas discharge surface (22) of one exhaust silencer unit (2) to the exhaust gas introduction surface (21) of another exhaust silencer unit (2). In the most downstream exhaust silencer unit (2), the exhaust gas discharge surface (22) is closed by a cover (25) provided with an exhaust tube (25a), the exhaust gas tube (23) is connected to an exhaust path, and the exhaust gas drain tube (24) is connected to a drain path.
