Title:
EXTENSIBLE FURNITURE STRUCTURE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2000/036950
Kind Code:
A2
Abstract:
An extensible furniture structure is directed to configure and build furniture object like shelves or cupboards for dwellings or rooms having different roles. Said structure consists of some lateral sides as some frames of some vertical transoms (1) having each a median longitudinal channel (a) and on which are fixed by example by gluing some traverses (2), sides which are stiffened in order to obtain the furniture's precincts and its horizontal extending using some horizontal platforms (3) endowed each with some reinforcements (4) which lean against on the inner part of the vertical side and which are stiffened using some wedges (5) introduced through two holes (c) of the same platforms, and to vertical extending two neighboring frames are put end to end and stiffened using an auxiliary traverse (6) and some horizontal wedges (7 and 8 respectively) which are introduced through some aligned holes (d) of the frame transoms, and on the auxiliary traverse (e) respectively, the structure could be also completed with doors and drawers using other auxiliary elements as traverses or grooves.

Description:
EXTENSIBLE FURNITURE STRUCTURE TECHNICAL FIELD The invention is related to a furniture structure, and more particularly to an extensible furniture structure having an improved assembling way for use in constructing different kind of furniture such as shelves or cupboards for dwellings or rooms having different roles.

BACKGROUND ART Extensible furniture are well known in the art. Such furnitures can have an assembled construction of some panels of different materials mainly of wood stiffened by screws during the mounting.

One problem of these ensembles is that they are too complex constructively. The final appearance of the assembled products is a given one without to allow other alternatives than the initial foreseen. Also the overall size is initial established and it couldn't be changed.

DISCLOSURE OF INVENTION Accordingly, this invention seeks to provide a furniture structure which does not suffer from the above disadvantage and which provides a structure of some lateral sides as some frame constituted of some transoms which possess each a median longitudinal channel and where are fixed by example through gluing some joining traverse, sides which are stiffened to build the furniture's precincts and its eventual horizontal extending through joining using some horizontal platforms endowed with some reinforcing frames which lean against the inner side of the vertical side and which are stiffened of that by means of some wedges introduced through two holes of the same platform, and to extend vertically two neighboring lateral sides are put end to end and stiffened using

an auxiliary traverse and some horizontal wedges which are introduced through some aligned holes of the transoms of frames and of auxiliary traverse respectively, all the structure could be also endowed with doors mounted using some grooves introduced through holes performed in the extreme platforms or/and with gliding drawers on some faces of other intermediate traverses which lean against some suitable faces of the two neighboring vertical traverses which define the height where that will be found.

A such furniture structure has component parts with a simple construction, these are interchangeable, and it is possible to build furniture objects different as appearance, destination and size.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS While the specification concludes with claims particularly pointing out and distinctly claiming the present invention will be better understood from the following description taken in conjuction with the accompanying drawings in which like designations are used to designate substantially identical elements, and in which: Figure 1 is a section through the fixing wedge of the lateral side of a horizontal frame.

Figure 2 is a detailed view which the way to joint the traverse in the vertical transoms of the vertical side.

Figure 3 is a longitudinal section in the place where the lateral transoms are wedged when the lateral frames are mounted.

Figure 4 is a detail in the cross-section through the ensemble of gliding way of a drawer.

MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION With reference to the drawings, an exemplary extensible furniture

structure is constituted from some sides as frames with traverses where two vertical transoms 1 having each a median longitudinal channel a, where some equally distanced traverses 2 are mounted by example through gluing and an other transversal keyway b, at the both ends of the transoms, sides which are stiffened according the desired furniture object appearance using some horizontal platforms 3 having some reinforcements 4 and which are introduced between two traverses 2 of the frames of sides and are stiffened by means of two wedges 5 which are introduced through two circular holes c performed at both ends of the horizontal face outside of the side and lean against the two neighboring traverse reinforced by the reinforcements 4 which lean at their turn against the inner side of the lateral vertical side.

Using more horizontal platforms 3, mounted alternatively around a side, the furniture object could be extended horizontally.

To extend vertically the furniture object, in the transversal keyways b of the transoms of two lateral neighboring sides situated so that one continues the another. For that an auxiliary traverse 6 having two circular holes d, on each end, holes which are aligned when they are mounted with other two holes e performed one separately in each transom of those which articulate, through these holes being introduced some horizontal wedges 7 and 8 respectively which ensure vertically the reinforcements of the frames of lateral sides, frames which allow also the horizontal extending following the above already exposed technique.

Some of horizontal platforms could exceed laterally the size of the frame and could have some vertical holes where using some grooves, some suitable vertical doors to close the built structure could be mounted. Similarly, some horizontal holes could be performed on the horizontal transoms where using some grooves as articulations for doors with horizontal opening could be mounted.

In the same structure some drawers could be mounted. They will glide between two traverses neighboring 2 where an intermediate traverse 9 will be introduced on each side of the desired gliding way, traverse so profiled that it leads against a vertical face g to a neighboring upper near traverse, with an other horizontal surface h of its profile it leans against the upper face of an inferior neighboring traverse and on a vertical face i which presses on the lateral side of the same traverse when the drawer could glide on a horizontal face k of the horizontal intermediate traverse.
