Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to eliminate from a caterpillar-shaped exterior material gaps through which the intrusion of foreign material is likely to occur. The exterior material comprises: a resin-made caterpillar body which is enabled to follow the movement of a wire harness; and a shutter for blocking foreign material which is built into the caterpillar body. The shutter is made of an elastic rubber, an elastomer, a soft resin, or a fiber material. The caterpillar body is constructed by sequentially connecting bottom walls of multiple rectangular-frame-like blocks together via thin hinge parts, whereby hollow sections of the connected blocks form a wire harness insertion path, and the caterpillar body is enabled to bend as right and left sidewalls and outer peripheral walls of sequentially adjacent blocks open/close with respect to each other, with the bottom walls being arranged on the inner peripheral side. The shutter has the same length as the caterpillar body and a U-shaped cross-section in an orthogonal direction to the length direction thereof, both right and left side sections of the shutter are aligned with the inner surfaces of both the right and left sidewalls of the blocks, and a middle connection section of the shutter is aligned with the inner surfaces of the outer peripheral walls of the blocks and extends through gaps which are formed between the right and left sidewalls and the outer peripheral walls of the sequentially adjacent blocks, thereby blocking the gaps from the outside.
