Abstract:
Disclosed is an external cavity laser in which one another are combined: a VCSEL-DBR type light-emitting part configured to make an electric current flow to emit light and including a DBR function layer and an active layer for a quantum well, formed at one side of the DBR function layer; an optical guide installed at one side of the active layer to allow one-end surface thereof to face the active layer, receiving and guiding light generated in the active layer, and having an optical axis formed perpendicular to a plane of the active layer; a reflection pattern disposed at one side of the optical guide and formed to receive light generated from the other-end surface of the optical guide and then re-reflect the light toward the optical guide; and an optical circuit part comprising an outer layer which surrounds the optical guide and the reflection pattern. According to the present invention, problems of inefficient optical coupling, such as in the arrangement and reflection of a part of coupling between a gain element and a silicon waveguide, can be solved, thereby improving optical coupling efficiency inside an ECL.
