Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing an external environment recognition device for a vehicle, the device being capable of preventing light reflected by reflectors and the like from being mistakenly identified as light from an oncoming vehicle even on roads having no white lines or navigation information; and providing a light distribution control system using this device. This external environment recognition device for a vehicle has an image receiver for obtaining a captured image of the view ahead of the vehicle in question, a light source extractor for extracting a light source from the image, a vehicle speed receiver for receiving information on the speed of the vehicle in question, a possible oncoming vehicle area estimator for estimating the possible oncoming vehicle area on the basis of the speed of the vehicle in question, and an oncoming vehicle detector for detecting an oncoming vehicle on the basis of the possible oncoming vehicle area and the light source. The possible oncoming vehicle area estimator estimates the existence of the possible oncoming vehicle area on the basis of the speed of the vehicle in question, the minimum radius of curvature of a travel route that corresponds to a predetermined speed limit, and passing information indicating whether the travel route is driving on the right-hand side or the left-hand side of the road.
