Abstract:

An external-environment recognition system which is equipped with a camera installed in a vehicle, analyzes an image from the camera, and recognizes the state of the surroundings of the vehicle on the basis of the analysis results of the camera image, the external-environment recognition system being characterized in that a dirtiness detection unit: sets one or more reference lines to be the lines of at least part of an object which does not change in the camera image even when the vehicle moves; detects an observation line corresponding to the reference line from the camera image; calculates the amount by which the observation line deviates from the reference line; and detects whether or not dirt is adhered to the camera on the basis of the amount of deviation.
