Abstract:

The conventional external-field recognizing apparatus, which has means for acquiring image information and object detecting means for detecting objects through signal transmission and reception, has these means separately disposed on the vehicle body. It is, therefore, a problem that when information from one of these means is combined with that from the other to recognize an external field of the vehicle, the detection performance is significantly dependent on the degrees of precision with which to dispose the image information acquiring means and object detecting means to the vehicle body. An external-field-of-vehicle recognizing apparatus of the present invention, which comprises means for acquiring image information and object detecting means for detecting objects through signal transmission and reception, uses information, which is obtained by the image information acquiring means and object detecting means, to recognize the external environment of the vehicle. According to the present invention, the image acquiring means and object detecting means are disposed on a common support member, thereby reducing the disposal error between the image information acquiring means and the object detecting means. Moreover, the adjustment of the positional relationship therebetween is simplified.
