Abstract:
The purpose of the invention is to obtain an external resonator type light emitting device in which a highly stable wavelength is ensured and optical output variation is suppressed. The external resonator type light emitting device comprises: a semiconductor laser light source having an active layer for emitting laser light; and a grating element including a ridge-type optical waveguide, the longitudinal direction of which is the optical axis direction of the laser light emitted from the active layer and a Bragg grating (BG) provided at an intermediate portion of the optical waveguide and oscillating light having a predetermined wavelength component of the incident laser light between the semiconductor laser light source and the BG to output the oscillated light to the outside of the device as exit light. When the wavelength of the laser light emitted from the semiconductor laser light source is denoted by λ1 and the central wavelength and full width at half maximum of the reflectivity profile of the BG are denoted by λG and ΔλG, respectively, the relationship λ1 <λG - ΔλG/2 is satisfied at least in the temperature range of -10°C to 30°C, inclusive, and the wavelength region of the exit light falls in the range of λG - ΔλG/2 to λG + ΔλG/2, inclusive.
