Abstract:
The present invention relates to an external storage apparatus and to a method for controlling same. The external storage apparatus comprises: a hard disk module including a platter on which data is recorded, a head arm for accessing data on the platter, and a voice coil motor for driving the head arm; a switch unit which is turned on/off by a user; and a switching controller which determines whether or not to supply power to the hard disk module in accordance with the on/off operation of the switch unit.
